[Better a Bird in the Hand than a Red Rooster on the Roof – A handful of Bones from the Dionysius Church at Bremerhaven-Wulsdorf]
report submitted to the Landesarchäologie Bremen

Abstract
This report presents the analysis of the faunal remains found in the church of St. Dionysisus in Bremerhaven-Wulsdorf. The major part of the finds stems from the 14th-15th century AD. A smaller part of the bones belong to a wooden predecessor of the stone church first historically mentioned in the 12th century. A particular feature of the assemblage is the high amount of small mammals, small birds and amphibians, which most probably accumulated in the church as natural intrusions, e.g. as results of the activities of carnivores (stone marten), raptors (barn owl), commensals (sparrows, rats, mice) or hibernating species (amphibians).
