How far did the trade relations of Bremen and Hamburg merchants in the 15th to 17th century extend into the North Atlantic region? The exhibition presents research of the project Looking in from the Edge (LIFTE), in which historians and archaeologists from the German Maritime Museum, the Orkney and Shetland Archives, the Stromness Museum and the University of Highlands and Islands (UHI) in Kirkwall, Orkney investigate traces of Hanseatic trade on the Shetland and Orkney Islands.
